MEDICAL AFFAIRS
We are currently creating a new Global Medical Affairs group within Biogen Idec. One of our key goals will be to build a strong, credible and highly effective International Central Nervous System (CNS) Unit with responsibilities for international medical affairs to support for our flagship product in MS, AVONEX, as well as future CNS products under development, and other potential blockbusters in MS therapy.
The Director of International Medical Affairs for the CNS Unit will be part of a team of 8 professionals. This International Medical Affairs team is involved in developing the Global Strategy and implementing it on an international level. In International Medical Affairs, you will be responsible for supporting all of our international medical affairs activities. This specifically includes the following tasks primarily for AVONEX but also for expansions in neurology.
- Proactive medical support for all International Marketing activities (e.g.,congresses, medical education, data / publication review, marketing campaigns, developing publications)
- KOL development activities on an international level in collaboration with International Marketing and the local Medical Managers
- Creation of a commercial development plan and implementation of international post-marketing studies
- Support of local clinical investigator run trials (IRTs) in collaboration with local medical managers
- Support international regulatory affairs registration and other related tasks
- Support international legal initiatives
- Provide medical advice when reviewing EU promotional material
- Provide strategic guidance, medical information and support to local medical managers in our affiliates
- Work closely together with the Medical Directors in the affiliates to support local Medical Affairs needs
- Develop and update medical training materials as needed
- Maintain close working relationships with International Marketing, US Medical
- Research, as well as Regulatory Affairs, Legal, Medical Operations, and Pharmacovigilance
Qualifications
- Minimum 8-10 years in pharmaceutical or related industry
- Experience in entrepreneurial business environment a plus
- Familiar with key publications and data in the field of MS
- Strong leadership capability to manage high professional physicians
- Ability to link and align commercial and medical strategies
- Ability to build the bridge between medical knowledge and commercial messages
- Willingness to present Avonex related data to the marketplace in both commercial as well as in medical terms
- Expert in clinical trial design and implementation
- Familiar with the review of protocols and publications.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to manage, motivate and influence work behaviors
- Open-minded, empathic and able to adapt to different cultures among our international markets
- Flexible, enthusiastic and highly motivated to work in a challenging environment
- Enjoy business travel
- Fluent spoken and written English, other European languages appreciated
- Education: Neurologist or training in neurology
