Scientist II, Manufacturing Sciences


Provide engineering and scientific leadership to support clinical and/or commercial processes in the area of protein purification operations. The management and development of direct reports may be a component of the responsibility. Successful candidate will lead investigation teams, lead technology transfer teams, identify opportunities to improve systems and practices, and provide direction to product development teams. Provide interpretation of manufacturing data. Design, implement and analyze laboratory and/or pilot plant work aimed at solving complex manufacturing problems. Lead one or more projects spanning multiple departments and cross-functional areas. This role requires an ability to work independently and as part of a team. Position will contribute to protein purification and fill/finish expertise and provide general knowledge in a breadth of technical areas relevant to biopharmaceutical manufacturing.


  • Technical expertise in protein purification (including laboratory and/or scale-up experience) and broad knowledge of other technical areas within biopharmaceutical manufacturing.
  • A demonstrated ability to manage and develop scientific staff is required.
  • A strong publication record and prior experience authoring IND or BLA sections is desirable.
  • Working knowledge of computer software such as MSWord and Lotus Notes and skilled knowledge of Excel, MSPROJECT and JMP (or other statistical package).
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. Excellent organizational skills.
  • Additional fill/finish experience is also desirable.


B.S. degree in Biochemical or Chemical Engineering or a related scientific discipline such as Chemistry or Biology with at least 8-10 years of related job experience, or Master’s degree with 5-8 years experience, or PhD with 3-5 or more years management experience.
